2026 Registration for this program will open on November 24, 2025 at 9:00am
This full day program, offered annually after the May long weekend allows participants to learn all about life in the past. The program series includes two different full day programs so that school’s can send multiple grade levels to enjoy the offerings. The day includes an interactive tour of half of our site, thematically connected activity stations, a group activity, old-fashioned home-made ice cream tasting, and a visit to Fort Saskatchewan’s famous flock of sheep – complete with carrots for the sheep to nibble on! (subject to sheep schedule and weather conditions.)
If you previously attended a Who Was Here Before Us? program many of the activities are similar but now there is even more on offer!
Program Options:
Day in the Life of a Homesteader
In this program students will have the opportunity to tour our historic village and learn about the ways that people in the past lived their day to day lives on the homesteads around Fort Saskatchewan. Students will experience doing chores, a historic school lesson, and field games that were popular over a hundred years ago, many of which are stilled played today!
Please note that due to the nature of the historic buildings many aspects of this program are not accessible to those using mobility aids. If your class has complex needs in this area please contact the program coordinator to see if accommodations can be made.
Day in the Life of a Mountie
In this program students will have the opportunity to tour a recreation of the 1875 North-West Mounted Police fort that started Fort Saskatchewan. They will participate in activities that reflect the day to day experiences of the Mounties, doing drills, playing games and learning social dancing!
Cost
Registration costs are $7.25/student (no tax), with no charges for teachers and adult helpers or aids.
Ask us about adding a candy stick bundle for $0.25+tax/student!
